Summer vacation is here!

    Dear kids,

School finished last Friday, June 20, after a long and hardworking year. It's time for a well-deserved vacation at the beach, in the country (= no campo), anywhere in Portugal or abroad (= no estrangeiro).

I hope you all have a wonderful time and send messages to say what you are doing.

America and its flowers

Yesterday João from 5A sent a link to this beautiful e-card about the flower of each of the American states. It's beautiful and... it's a learning moment! Thank you, João!

What is the flower of New York (East coast or Atlantic side)? And what is the flower of Oregon (West coast or Pacific side)? Why am I asking these questions?

Well, as you know, I was (= como sabem, eu estive) in New York City the first week of April and didn't know the flower of the state. Now I know.

This weekend I have two friends visiting me and Lisbon. They are from Oregon. NowI know the name of their state flower.

I'm back and... finally posting

Hi, kids!

I've been so busy since April 7 (=tenho estado tão ocupada desde 7 Abril) that I haven't had time for this blog.

My trip to TESOL 2008 in New York City was great. My presentation about the CALL Lessons 2005-2007 blog < http://call05-06.motime.com > was very nice and teacher Larissa (photo below) from Siberia, in Russia, invited me to do an online workshop this summer for her teacher trainees. I'm very excited!!!

I also had colleagues from Thailand, El Salvador and Argentina.

Karaoke contest: Congrats, Letícia!

Yesterday was the last day of the second term and there was a karaoke competition at school in the morning. I enjoyed it very much. Congratulations to all the students who participated!

I was very, very proud (= orgulhosa) of my three students, Letícia (5A), Emília (5B) and Ana Margarida (6B), who perticipated in it. The three sang (= cantaram) very well and Letícia won (= ganhou) the 1st prize. Congratulations, Letícia! And congratulations, Emília and Ana Margarida! You're all winners (= vencedoras) for me. Here's my trophy for the three of you. Many (((hugs)))!

    Dear kids,

Here's the first Easter drawing I received on Friday. It's from Daniela in 5A. It's very cute (= giro) and colorful. I love the rabbit and the basket with the Easter eggs.

Matilde and João (5A)

Dear Matilde,

You were very brave this morning doing the English test and crying silently for the cat that you lost (= perdeste) yesterday. I was very sad for you!

This is my present for you. I love this photo. I think that it's a very cute (= muito giro) cat. I hope (= espero) it makes you smile and think of the "good times" with your cat.
